Personal branding: 5 tips that will help you build your personal brand

In the age of the Internet and social networks, not only your professional qualities but also your self-presentation decide whether you will reach potential clients. The way you communicate your services and skills externally can be an important factor in deciding whether or not a potential business partner will work with you.

Yes, we are talking about a personal brand that will help you in business in a relatively easy way to open a lot of doors. But it will not be free. Building a strong personal brand that reminds people immediately when they hear your name will cost you a lot of time, work and often trial and error. But the result is worth it. How to do it?

What exactly is a personal brand?

A personal brand is a consciously created set of qualities that sets you and your work apart from others, and therefore from the competition. It is the famous “X-factor”, which arouses people’s curiosity and desire to get to know you better. The personal brand includes the basic pillars on which you build your business, as well as associations that should remind people in connection with you. You can also express your specificity with special graphic elements or the language in which your brand speaks.

Dare to be different

Surely you have noticed that it is much easier for you to remember a new person to meet if he or she is unique, and it’s not very important if it’s pink hair, unusual laughter or maybe a unibrow. And that’s exactly how it works in the world of brands, including personal ones. Is there anything that sets you apart from others? If so, turn the difference into your advantage. People will then remember you precisely because you are “different” in something.

Get inspired

Do market research and focus on your competitors. What did they build their personal brand on? In points, write down ideas that seem inspiring to you and think about how you could move them forward and transform them for your needs. Don’t worry, the goal is not to rude anyone, but rather to find impulses to kick your own creativity. The book Steal as an Artist by Austin Kleon will advise you on how to “steal” so that you can come up with something new and, in addition, enjoy the result.

Stay authentic, please

If you decide to blindly imitate other people’s ideas when building a personal brand, the result will probably not work. People will sooner or later know that this is a pose that is not your own. If you stay authentic and yourself, you will work better and you will not fall out of the role in an unguarded moment. Of course, a certain stylization is permissible and often beneficial, but it must be in accordance with your nature.

Choose the right communication channels

In order for people to find out about you, you will need a platform to present your person and work. Whether it is a website, blog, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn or a combination of these depends on your preferences and, of course, the target group. And definitely you don’t have to be everywhere at all costs. Therefore, focus on the channels that make the most sense to you in the context of your business, and pamper, improve, and keep them up to date.

Show your superpowers!

Well, no one likes people who talk only about themselves and their successes. But when you choose the right form, there is nothing wrong with a little bragging about what you have accomplished. Did you get a new client? Do you have great customer feedback? Did you write a successful article? Have you appeared in the media? Let others know and share your joy with them. But always with peace and humility.
